Get Your Tail Wagging

Hello Friends of Friend of Dogs!

What a year last year was and what a year this one is shaping up to be!

Things may seem a little uncertain, even off-putting, but remember you can always count on dogs to lift your spirits and make things seem a little less daunting.

To that end, here's some news, stories, and a bit of puppy love to get you through the day.

From the New York Times:

In a Miserable Year, I Had the Dodgers and a Stray Dog

From the UK Independent

Puppy Pipeline runs from Georgia Northward to Adoptive Homes

and perhaps my favorite story of late...

From CNN no less!

With our present situation, there has never been a better time to foster and adopt a dog. If you live on the Upper East Side of New York City, Friend of Dogs is here to help you with your dogwalking needs.

Give them love, give them food, go do your Zoom call. We've got your back.

Until next time, stay safe, stay happy, pet your dog!

Executive Rescue

The new President of the United States, Joe Biden, and his wife Dr. Jill Biden, are the proud parents of these two amazing German Shepherds, Champ (black and tan) and Major (black and white).

The latter is a rescue dog and the first rescue dog to ever live in the White House. Talk about a lucky dog! He found his forever home and for a time it will be at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!

I'm clearly a member of the dog party...

National Dog Day!

Over here at Friend of Dogs we are celebrating our most favorite of holidays, August 26th, National Dog Day!

In addition to having fun with our resident Director of Dog Affairs, Sketch, we are scouring the internet for great pictures, stories, and facts about our canine companions. Have something you'd like to share? Leave a message in the comments below. Our doghouse is your doghouse!

Sketch, pictured above, celebrates his third birthday this Friday, so this week holds twice the dog love!

Enjoy the day!

Two Walks a Day - In Germany, It's The Law!

A rather interesting news article popped up from the BBC and other European news agencies.

Germany is putting into legislation a new 'Two Walk Minimum' law, providing requirements and guidelines for pet care that includes making sure ones dog is walked a minimum of one hour a day.

I am all for laws that insure the safety and well-being of our canine companions but honestly, two walks a day is the absolute minimum and then only in certain conditions.

Dogs should really be walked every six to eight hours or, my personal recommendation, a minimum of three or four times a day. An early morning walk, sometime in the afternoon (based on your schedule and theirs of course), and a least one evening walk. An early evening and late evening walk is preferable to insure no overnight accidents (this depends on the dog's age, breed, health, and other factors).

This is one of the reasons a professional dogwalker is vital in the lives of many dog parents, especially in big cities. You can't allows give your dog as many walks as they need but you get help to provide the exercise and care they deserve.

Here's a link to the article.

Talk to you soon,

Straight from the Heart

Here's an article on the increase in pet adoptions during this period of pandemic in the United States (and of course, the entire world) and the notable health benefits it can bring with it.

It is one of many, many articles covering various aspects of this wonderful side effect to our difficult times. I chose this one because it is fairly recent and comes from an unexpected source...The American Heart Association!

Check it out!

We're Here When You Need Us

Hello there fellow dog lovers and welcome to the first post on the Friend of Dogs blog!

We hope this post finds you all safe and well; at least as well as can be expected during these difficult times.

While the current world health has set many of us back in our personal and professional lives, we here at Friend of Dogs have been staying strong and continuing to make furry friends and walking darling dogs.

What keeps us going? Simple. We love dogs and they still need walking!

One positive of our present state of affairs has been the fact that people working from home have been able to spend more time with their pets. In addition, a record number of people have been rescuing and adopting pets to have amazing puppy pals to spend their quarantine time with. This is wonderful to learn, for both the animals and the Humans involved.

Work and classes still need to be done however, so Friend of Dogs has remained available to take your dogs for their walks. The objective is to let you get things done without sacrificing the companionship and care they've gotten used to.

Always wearing our masks, carrying hand sanitizer, washing our hands regularly, and taking any and all precautions to ensure the safety of both you and your pet, we're committed to providing the best possible service and experience we can.

If you are a Friend of Dogs regular who hasn't used us in a while, please let us know when you want to start walks again. If you recently adopted a dog and need some help with walks or someone to watch your pup while you're out, don't hesitate to contact us.

Friend of Dogs is here for you, we're here for your dog, and we want to make both your lives a little easier.

Check back with this blog for stories, photos, and information of interest to you and your canine companion.

Take care,

Adam
